The Washington Post ran an article entitled, “The Mission to fell ACORN.” In the article, the story made a dramatic claim. It stated:
Though O'Keefe described himself as a progressive radical, not a conservative, he said he targeted ACORN for the same reasons that the political right does: its massive voter registration drives that turn out poor African Americans and Latinos against Republicans.
The Washington Post was approached and asked to provide the source for this quote. Instead, of providing the source, the Post printed a correction which stated in part:
Th[e] article about the community organizing group ACORN incorrectly said that a conservative journalist targeted the organization for hidden-camera videos partly because its voter-registration drives bring Latinos and African Americans to the polls. Although ACORN registers people mostly from those groups, the maker of the videos, James E. O'Keefe, did not specifically mention them.
Wow! This is incredible. Notice that the correction says that the maker of the videos did not “specifically” mention minority groups. Therefore, it appears that this portion of the story was really an editorial masking as a news piece. Also, after being caught manufacturing a quote that was false, the Post does not say “sorry” or “our mistake”, instead, the Post goes Postal and essentially says that the quote that did not exist was understood. Good grief.
Be careful Washington Post, your liberal “slip” is showing under your dress which turns out to be a facade of faux impartiality.
