There are two Governor’s races that will be determined in a few weeks. The first is the Virginia Governor’s race. The Republican candidate is now up by about 9 points and barring something unexpected, the Democrat should lose. You can already see the National Democrats trying to portray it as a local issue and not a harbinger of any bigger problem.
The other race is the New Jersey Governor’s race. New Jersey has been its own little problem for the Democrats for years. Democrat candidate after candidate and then office holder after office holder have faced scandal and then been replaced by another Democrat so that the state could remain “safe.”
The Governor’s race has been close. The Republican candidate has been in the lead, but the latest polls show that the race has tightened. The Democrat is spending probably two to one over the Republican.
If the Republican wins the New Jersey Governor’s race, the Democrats will react and react strongly.
